It appears that the NC Utilities Commission is honoring Ashe County’s
request for a 90-day period to consider the impact of a proposed
commercial wind farm on Big Springs Mountain. The Utilities Commission
met yesterday to hear further testimony on the farm’s effect, but did
not end their meeting with a final decision. The commissioner’s issued
their request Friday amidst concerns that the Utilities Commission
would interpret the Ridge Protection Act to allow wind turbines. Also,
to give themselves more time to research and evaluate claims about the
farm’s potential impact on health, environment, real estate and
economy. The Commissioner’s will hold a second reading and vote on a
county wind ordinance at next Monday’s meeting. View the resolution on
