Appalachian State University men's track and field saw three of its five regional qualifiers finish competition on Friday at the NCAA East Preliminary at Irwin Belk track on the campus of North Carolina A&T. Stanley Broaden, who finished the 400-meter hurdles in 42nd place after posting a time of 54.05 seconds on Thursday, ended his season with a 36th-place showing in the 110-meter hurdles on Friday, running the event in 14.21 seconds
Chris Moen and Josh Cox took 36th and 38th, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Moen finished in a time of 9:11.42 while Cox came in at 9:20.29.
Jared Stalling saw his prolific career come to an end with a 27th-place finish in the discus throw on Thursday. His mark of 50.66 meters (166-2) was not enough to place him among the top 12 competitors who will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Despite not reaching the national championship round, Stalling finished his outdoor career as a two-time Southern Conference Most Outstanding Field Performer and ranks in the top-five in Appalachian State history in the discus, hammer and shot put.
Alex Taylor will compete in the 1,500-meter run at the East Regionals on Saturday. He snagged three top-10 finishes in the event during the season, including a first-place showing at the Beaches vs. Mountains meet in March. He is the current school record-holder in the event, logging a time of 3:42.29 last season. The top 12 competitors in each event will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
