Lenoir-Rhyne University has announced the hiring of Tom Fleenor as its new baseball coach. Fleenor comes to L-R after serving as Head Coach at USC Sumter for the past six seasons (2008-13).\ Fleenor started the junior college program at USC Sumter and compiled a 242-103 (.701) record as mentor of the Fire Ants.
"I am extremely honored to be given this opportunity", said Fleenor. "I want to thank Neill McGeachy (Lenoir-Rhyne's Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics) for the confidence he has in my ability to raise this program to an elite status."
Fleenor led USC Sumter to a 37-18 mark this past season and a berth in the Region 10 Tournament. USC Sumter also won the Region 10 Title in both 2009 (52-11) and 2011 (41-11) while Fleenor garnered region coach-of-the-year accolades during both seasons.
Prior to USC Sumter, Fleenor served as Head Assistant Coach at USC Upstate (2001-06) and Assistant Coach at Rollins (1999-00). Fleenor started his baseball coaching career at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tenn. (1994) before serving on the baseball staff at Ole Miss (1995-98).
During the summer, Fleenor has served as Manager and Head Coach at several New York Collegiate, Northwoods and Coastal Plain League Teams. His summer coaching career totals 338 victories to go along division championships at Rochester (Minn.) in 1998 and 1999 and at St. Cloud (Minn.) in 2003.
Fleenor earned his bachelor's degree from Tennessee Wesleyan in physical education in 1993 and was a three-time all-conference (1991-93) and two-time all-district (1992-93) honoree as a member of the Bulldogs' baseball team. Fleenor was inducted into the Tennessee Wesleyan Athletics Hall Of Fame in 2010.
Fleenor and his wife, Laura, are the proud parents of two children: Bradley (13) and Anna Grayce (10). Laura is currently serving her country on a military deployment for the Air Force.
