Blockbuster Closes in Just Over Two Weeks PDF Print

Better have all your movies and games turned back in two weeks from now, or the late fees could be substantial. After announcing a second wave of 300 Blockbuster Video closings at the first of the year, The Boone Blockbuster video store will be closing May 30th.  The move comes as the real estate, listed as for sale the first of March, has sold—to whom, not yet available—and the liquidation at the local store is on. When the sign went up, the manager said the company hoped to subdivide the building, leaving the video and game rentals in one part and renting other spaces, but that plan has been sacked with the sale of the store. Action nationwide is costing about 3,000 employees their jobs and leave about 500 Blockbuster locations in the U.S., and that followed the firm shuttering about 500 underperforming Blockbuster locations in 2012. Hopes are that new life can come for the area, with a number of properties vacant in the area, some awaiting town action, others just new ownership.
