Lees-McRae College men's soccer player James Smith (Eastbourne, England) got off to a flying start in his first appearance of the summer for the Carolina
Dynamo of the United Soccer League's Premier Development League, scoring on his debut to help the Dynamo open the season with a 3-0 victory over the Virginia Beach Piranhas.Smith played just seven minutes in the match, coming on as a substitute in the second half, but wasted little time opening his account for the campaign. The Eastbourne, England native capped the night's scoring for the Dynamo six minutes from time in the 84th, chipping the keeper for his first goal of the season.Thomas Rusling (Sheffield, England), James Galvani (High Wycombe, England), and Yago Xavier(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) have yet to make their first appearance of the summer for their respective sides; Galvani and Toronto Lynx open the campaign on Wednesday, May 22, while Xavier and Chesterfield United of the National Premier Soccer League take the pitch on Saturday, May 18.The PDL regular season runs through Sunday, July 21, followed by one of the most competitive postseasons the United Soccer Leagues have to offer.
