The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team will be one of the two host schools for the 2013 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament which begins play on
Friday, May 10.
The four-team tournament in Hickory, N.C., at Bears Field consists of Lenoir-Rhyne (35-14), North Georgia (36-12), Anderson (37-13) and Georgia College (36-15).
Armstrong Atlantic State (36-7-1), out of Savannah, Ga., will host the other half of the regional tournament which consists of Columbus State (39-16), Mount Olive (34-13) and Wingate (32-20).
L-R enters the tournament ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II and will face 25th-ranked Georgia College on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Bears are the second seed in the tournament while the Bobcats are seeded seventh.
Third-seeded North Georgia faces South Atlantic Conference-member Anderson, the sixth seed, in the first contest of the regional tournament on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
Lenoir-Rhyne earned an automatic qualifying berth to the national tournament after winning its fourth consecutive Food Lion SAC Tournament two weeks ago in Salisbury, N.C.
Lenoir-Rhyne will making its eighth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Playoffs as well and will be hosting its fourth regional tournament in school history. The Bears also hosted the regionals for three straight seasons (2009-11).
Tickets are $7.00 each day and $4.00 for children 12 and under and students with proper identification.
The winners of the regional tournament will meet in the Super Regionals on May 17-18 at the highest remaining seed. The 2013 NCAA Division II Women's College World Series takes place on May 23-27 at the Moyer Complex in Salem, Va.
