Watauga High baseball coach Pete Hardee has been named the head coach of the Region 7 All-Star Team at the Powerade State Games of North Carolina.

Hardee, who has been an assistant coach in past years with Region 7 and has served as an assistant coach in the East-West Senior All-Star Game, will take over as head coach for the first time in his career this summer.
State Games coaches rotate up until they are the head coach and new coaches are added to every team each year. This rotation ensures that all coaches, all schools, and all geographic areas of the state have the opportunity to participate in the Powerade State Games.
Hardee will be assisted by Robert Little of Lake Norman and Terry Johnson of Wilkes Central. The state baseball games will be played in Charlotte, N.C., this season, June 19-23.
The Powerade State Games Underclassmen tournament is a four-game, round-robin competition. UNC-Charlotte and Hopewell High will host the state games this season.
Now, the Powerade State Games will not have a Senior East-West Series this year. Instead, there will be a North Carolina-South Carolina Showcase added to the schedule this summer.
Also, for the first time in memory, WHS will not have any players competing at the state games, in baseball, or in boy's and girl's soccer.
Tyler Jones of the Pioneers played for Region 7 last summer. The WHS boy's soccer team hasn't had a player competing at the state games since 2007; the girls won't have a player competing at the state games for the first time in school history. Lillie Brady and Hannah Younger represented WHS at the state games the last two years.
The state games in soccer will be played at Wingate University in Charlotte, June 22-23.
