The Tailwind Track Club of Watauga County competed in the Bring The Heat Invitational in Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday.
The track club produced a number of personal records in a competitive meet that included more than 1,000 athletes from North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Coaches Baker Perry and Jason Beach took this small contingent from Watauga County to the Queen City.
Chase Perry paced Tailwind by winning the 800 meter run in the Primary Division. Perry won the race in 2:56.3; he finished fourth in the 400 (1:19.2).
Holden Perry finished second in the boy's 800 (2:46.4) in the Midget Division; he finished third in the 1,500 (5:49.4).
"Chase came home with a ferocious kick to win the 800, and Holden finished behind two athletes, who each broke the old meet record of 5:07," said Tailwind coach Don Wood. "While many of the athletes were racing in their third track meet of the season, this was only our first competition of the season. And it was an impressive start for our kids."
MaryLouise Spargue3 had a fourth-place finish in the girl's 1,500 (6:16.6) in the Midget Division; she also turned in a sixth-place finish in the 800 (3:03.2). Sophie Beach had a sixth-place finish in the girl's 1,500 (7:20) in the Bantam Division.
