The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team is ranked No. 14 in this week's NFCA NCAA Division II National Top 25 Poll. NFCA is the National Fastpitch Coaches Association of America. In addition, the Bears are ranked second in the Southeast Regional Poll for the second consecutive week. The top eight teams from each region earn a berth to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
The Southeast Region consists of teams from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference in addition to several independents. The NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament will take place on May 10-12. The national tournament selection will be held on Monday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m.
Lenoir-Rhyne (35-14) earned an automatic qualifying bid to the national tournament after winning its fourth straight league tournament title last Sunday in Salisbury, N.C. L-R defeated Catawba twice - 7-5 and 8-0 - on Sunday to claim the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship, its eighth in school history as well.
The NFCA NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 D-II head coaches with two representing each of the eight NCAA regions. The current 2013 records are shown with first-place votes in parentheses.
