ASU Men’s Tennis Signs Hoang For 2013-14 PDF Print

Appalachian State University men’s tennis signed high school standout Daniel Hoang to a National Letter of Intent to join the Mountaineers’ men’s tennis

program in 2013, head coach Robert Lake announced on Tuesday.
“Coming off a 6-14, 3-7 SoCon season this year, we are already looking forward to next year. We have Daniel as well as Oliver Casey (Melbourne, Australia/Carey Baptist) commited for next year. I expect Oliver to also make an immediate impact in the upper part of the line-up,” said Lake.
“Additionally, we have two three star recruits from North Carolina in Eric Greene and Chris Mahan coming in as freshmen. We will be returning 2013 first team all-conference players Sebastien King and Zach Bost, as well as second team all-conference singles player Matt Saltsgaver (2012). We’re also returning players who saw a lot of action this season with Jan-Willem Kleynhans, Steve Lake, and Robert Jenkins.”
In addition to signee Daniel Hoang (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada/Assumption High School), the 2013-14 season will introduce current Appalachian freshman Ollie Casey (Melbourne, Australia/Carey Baptist). Eric Greene (Burlington, N.C./West Alamance High School) and Chris Mahan (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook High School) will join men’s tennis as well this fall.

Hoang played on Assumption’s men’s tennis team, where he was coached by former Canadian and Tunisian National head coach Pierre LaMarche…Enjoys watching movies and listening to music in his spare time…older brother, Victor, plays tennis for the University of Arkansas.
Lake’s Comments: “I am very much looking forward to having Daniel on the ASU Men’s Tennis team. Daniel has been consistently been ranked in the top ten juniors in Canada and should play high in the line up, both singles and doubles, his freshman season.”

Greene won eight state junior tennis titles from 2009-2011, including singles and doubles state championship and closed championships in 2011...state class 3A tennis singles semifinalist in 2010 and 2012 and state class 3A tennis singles finalist in 2011...earned all-conference, all- regional, and all-state honors in 2010, 2011, and 2012...three-time conference Player of the Year selection...finished in Junior USTA top 10 rankings from 2007-2011... named to the 2009 Southern Junior Cup Tennis Team...ranked in North Carolina age 16 division in 2011...posted Southern region rankings of No. 86 in 2009, No. 67 in 2010, and No. 48 in 2011...
Lake’s Comments: “Eric was the No. 1 ranked player in North Carolina in the boy’s 16’s, has a big game, great attitude and will represent App State well on the court and in the classroom.”


CHRIS MAHAN

Mahan is a three-time Sportsmanship Award winner...played No. 1 position in both singles and doubles during sophomore, junior, and senior seasons at Millbrook...finished as conference singles champion in his sophomore season and conference doubles champion as a junior...regional doubles finalist and state doubles semifinalist in junior year...named to class 4A first team all-state...earned top six rankings in each North Carolina USTA age division...ranked as high as No. 38 in the USTA Southern Region.
Lake’s Comments: “Chris has been consistently ranked top six in his age group in North Carolina. He’s been playing No. 1 for Millbrook High School, consistently one of the top class 4A tennis teams in the state. He will bring a winning attitude and a lot of experience to Appalachian State.”
