Beaverdam and Cove Creek Fire Departments along with Watauga Rescue are on the scene of a structure fire called in just after 6:15 this morning.  A witnesses saw smoke and flames coming from the home of D.L. Moody at 3560 Mountain Dale Road near Locust Gap Road, arriving firefighters getting control of the fire in short order, according to Steve Sudderth of the Emergency Management office.  Still, he estimated the structure to be a total loss. Sudderth said that there were several possible accidental causes for the fire in the living room area of the home, but with the extensive damage there, the exact cause was not determined.  Moody is reportedly staying with sister and the Red Cross is helping Moody.
Todd, Meat Camp, and Creston firefighters were called just after 2:30 this morning to a call at 121 Pro Street off NC 194 North, a fire that turned out to be a chimney fire.  The fire crews worked to be sure that the fire did not escape the confines, and managed to save the structure from much damage.
