The Watauga Storm eighth grade girl's basketball team finished second in the Alleghany Spring Invitational this past Saturday, in Sparta, N.C. The Storm started the day off by easily knocking off the host Alleghany Sting, 44-7 in their first-round game. The Storm continued its march to the championship game by turning in another great defensive effort by defeating the Roanoke Roar, 36-11.
In game three, the Storm put together their best offensive output of the day and defeated a good Pulaski Cougars team, 47-23, in the semifinals. The Storm held the Cougars scoreless for the first 13 minutes of the game before giving up a three pointer right before halftime.
The 3-0 start gave the Storm a spot in the championship game. However, the Storm fell behind early and could not recover, falling 42-28 in the finals against the Fort Chiswell Legacy.
