Boone Home Heavily Damaged in Fire PDF Print

Boone Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused extensive damage in a fire discovered just after noon yesterday at a home just off Blowing Rock Road in Boone.  Boone Fire arrived to find smoke pouring from the home next to Hampton's Funeral Service at 717 Blowing Rock Road, fire burning in the living room area, but the residents--three adults and three children--were away at the time.  Renters returned shortly to tell police they had just been away only a short time.  The large living room window was broken out, smoke pouring from that window and out the eaves of the home as Boone Firemen worked to put out the fire--a task accomplished within 11 minutes of their arrival.  The fire department had to block off Horn in the West Drive off 321 to lay a hose across the road, Boone Police working to keep traffic away, but the structure of the home was spared by the effort, Boone Fire estimating $60,000 structural damage, $40,000 loss to contents, but they say the house can be rebuilt, as they managed to keep the fire away from the structure of the house.  The cause was still being looked into late yesterday, the Red Cross helping the family.
