Pioneers Compete At Taco Bell PDF Print

It was a tough day for the Watauga High boy's and girl's track teams on Saturday at the Taco Bell Classic in Columbia, S.C. The WHS girls produced three top ten finishers, but did not score. Madison Harman and Taylor Drummonds were WHS' top finishers. Harman finished ninth in the girl's mile (5:25.20) and Drummonds tied for ninth in the girl's pole vault (10 feet); Drummonds also finished tenth in the girl's 100-meter hurdles (15.82). Darby Middlebrook was WHS' next highest place finisher. She was 12th in the girl's 3,200-meter run (11:42.45).
Savannah Drummonds was 20th in the pole vault (8-6); Kennedy Kavanaugh was 21st in the girl's 400 hurdles (1:13.49).
The WHS boys did not have a top ten finisher and they did not score in Saturday's meet. The 4x800 relay team (Josh Anderson, Drew Boyette, Bryan Brackney, Matthew Osborne) was WHS' highest finisher on Saturday with an 11th-place (8:23.33) showing. Anderson was 26th in the boy's mile (4:36.39), and the 4x400 relay (Brackney, Justin Hall, Ryan Hellenbrand, Zak Horine) was 28th (3:37.21).
J.L. Mann (Greenville, S.C.) won the girl's meet with 44 points; Asheville-Roberson finished fourth with 26.16 points. Wando (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) won the boy's meet with 46.50 points. Hickory finished 12th with 16 points. WHS travels to Lenior for the Porter Relays on Monday and Tuesday. Hibriten will host.
