L-R Splits Softball DH With Lincoln Memorial PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (30-13, 11-7) split its final South Atlantic Conference regular season doubleheader of the season with Lincoln Memorial (29-20, 7-11) Saturday afternoon at Hennon Field. Lincoln Memorial won the first game, 2-1, before L-R took the nightcap, 3-0. Game One - Lincoln Memorial 2, Lenoir-Rhyne 1
The Lady Railsplitters' Kirstin Toole (De Bary, Fla.) hit the game-winning, two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead Lincoln Memorial to the win. L-R senior first baseman Jessica Fellmeth (Waxhaw, N.C.) scored on a Lincoln Memorial error in the fifth inning for the Bears' lone run of the contest.
Lincoln Memorial's Samantha Smith (Knoxville, Tenn.) earned the win after giving up one unearned run while going the distance.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) took the loss and fell to 13-5 on the season.
Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 3, Lincoln Memorial 0
L-R freshman Brandi Hole (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) improved to 16-8 on the year after throwing a two-hit shutout. Hole also struck out five batters for her fourth shutout of the season.
The contest was scoreless until the seventh inning when the Bears pushed across three runs to salvage the doubleheader split.
L-R junior second baseman Ciera Cockerham (Yadkinville, N.C.) opened the scoring with an RBI single in the frame before freshman pinch hitter Ashley Oliver (Newton, N.C.) came through with a two-run double for the Bears. Smith (20-11) took the loss despite allowing just three hits in six innings of work for the Lady Railsplitters.
Lenoir-Rhyne closes out the regular season on Monday afternoon against Lees-McRae with a doubleheader in Banner Elk, N.C., beginning at 3:00 p.m.
