The Watauga High girl's lacrosse team held a special ceremony before Wednesday night's home opener with West Forsyth. Before the game, family and friends gathered to honor the late Leigh Cooper Wallace, who passed away in December of 2012. A sign with a plaque that read:

"You're stronger than you think", and a sign displaying the facility's new name, "Leigh Cooper Wallace Memorial Field", were brought into the stadium following Wednesday night's match.
Wallace became WHS' first girl's lacrosse coach when lacrosse became a varsity sport in 2008-09. Wallace led WHS to a district championship in her first season in the spring of 2009. Wallace coached the Pioneers for three seasons. Her sister, Holly Quick, who was an assistant coach the last two years, replaced Wallace as head coach in February.
Quick picked up her first coaching win as the Pioneers, led by Taelor Critcher's five goals, defeated West Forsyth, 11-5. The WHS boy's and girl's teams travel to Matthews-Butler on Saturday.
