WHS Girls Win Freshnman/Sophomore Meet PDF Print

The Watauga High JV girl's track team dominated the Freshman/Sophomore Meet in Hickory on Wednesday afternoon. The WHS girls won seven events and posted 21-top-five finishes. Savanna Randle paced WHS by winning the girl's 100-meter dash in 13:48, and finishing second in the girl's 200 (29.14). The Pioneers won three relay events, the girl's 4x800-meter relay (11:21.00), the 4x100 (53.87), and the 4x400 (4:38.80). Savannah Drummonds won the girl's pole vault with an effort of eight feet; Kathleen Mansure won the 1,600 (6:00.11); Lily Weeks won the 800 (2:44.59).
Clare Harris turned in a second-place finish in the girl's long jump with an effort of 13-feet, 11-inches. Grace Plyler was third with a jump of 13-10. Addie McClure finished second in the girl's triple jump (29-10); Belle Lehmann finished second in the 100 hurdles (16.81); The WHS "B" team finished third in the 4x800 (13:22.00). WHS bested the field with 168 points, 32 points better than second-place Alexander Central (136 points).
The WHS boys finished third with 96 points. Alexander Central won the meet with 137 points. The Pioneers won four events and produced 13 top-five finishers.
Zach Styron won the boy's 110-meter hurdles in 17.34; Drew Boyette won the 1,600 in 5:02.37; and the Pioneers won both the 4x800 (9:16.10), and the 4x400 (4:03.10) relay events. T.J. Poulos finished second in the long jump (18-11) and third in the triple jump (37-5).
Ryan Poole finished second in the boy's pole vault, clearing the bar with an effort of nine-feet, six-inches. Michael Holland finished second in the 800 (2:16.08).
WHS travels to Charlotte Friday and Saturday for the Taco Bell Invitational.
