Lenoir-Rhyne Earns Split With Pfeiffer PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (24-11) split a doubleheader with Pfeiffer (14-22) Wednesday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field. The Bears won the first game, 2-0, before the Falcons came out on top in the second contest, 1-0. Game One - Lenoir-Rhyne 2, Pfeiffer 0
L-R freshman Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) threw a three-hit shutout to lead the Bears to the win. Hoskins (10-4) struck out nine batters in pitching her seventh shutout of the year. Offensively, L-R scored single runs in both the third and fourth innings of play.
Freshman catcher Lauren Elder (Taylorsville, N.C.) and sophomore outfielder Brittany Coursen (Virginia Beach, Va.) each drove in a run as the Bears snapped a three-game losing streak.
Pfeiffer's Lindsey Russell (Huntersville, N.C.) fell to 4-10 after suffering the loss despite going the distance and allowing just one earned run.
Game Two - Pfeiffer 1, Lenoir-Rhyne 0
The Falcons' Ashlee Ellen (Jacksonville, Fla.) broke a scoreless tie with a walk-off, run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning. The hit scored Hannah Jackson (Greensboro, N.C.) as Pfeiffer was able to salvage the doubleheader split.
The Falcons' Sam Jarmusch (Colfax, N.C.) improved to 5-7 on the year after throwing a four-hit shutout. Jarmusch also struck out six batters in the contest. For Lenoir-Rhyne, freshman Brandi Hole (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) fell to 13-7 after taking the loss. Hole allowed just one run while going the distance for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to take on Lander in a doubleheader on Sunday as part of Senior Day beginning at 1:00 p.m. Pfeiffer, meanwhile, faces Johnson C. Smith in a doubleheader on Friday in Charlotte, N.C., starting at 4:00 p.m.
