|L-R Women's Lacrosse Romps Over Catawba|

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (5-5) made it two victories in a row with an 18-5 win over Catawba (4-9) Wednesday night at Shuford Stadium.
Sophomore Kirsten Smith (Dunkirk, Md.) finished with a match-high four goals and junior Hayley Beattie (Lebanon, N.J.) added three goals and a pair of assists for the Bears in the win. Lenoir-Rhyne took control of the match early and led by an 11-2 score entering intermission as the Bears scored the final seven goals of the first half.
The Indians closed the margin to 12-5 early in the second half but the Bears shut the door on any rally by tallying the final six goals of the match started off by back-to-back scores from sophomore Mary Minick (Marietta, Ga.).
Minick finished with three goals in the contest and now has a team-leading 24 goals on the season.
L-R freshman Claire Wach (Cary, N.C.) and sophomore Jamie Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y.) added two goals each as well for the Bears, who held the edge in both shots taken (43-13) and ground balls (41-30) in the win. In goal, sophomore Allison Senft (Marietta, Ga.) stopped two shots and was credited with her first win of the year for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Catawba's Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, N.Y.) finished with two goals while the Indians' goalkeeper, Bethany Davis (Salisbury, Md.), suffered the setback despite totaling 16 saves on the night.
L-R returns to action next Wednesday against Erskine on the road in Due West, S.C., beginning at 7:00 p.m. Catawba plays at Young Harris in Young Harris, Ga., on Saturday starting at 2:00 p.m.
Royals Blow out Lenoir-Rhyne, 17-6
The Queens Men's Lacrosse Team (6-5) defeated Lenoir-Rhyne (8-6), 17-6, Wednesday afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex in a non-conference match.
The Royals' Casey Hock (Danville, Calif.) and Evan Farkas (Havre de Grace, Md.) both scored four goals to lead Queens to the win. L-R sophomore Connor Squires (Lawrenceville, Ga.) scored twice but the Bears suffered their second consecutive setback. Squires now has 24 goals on the year, second-best on the squad.
Hock also added three assists for the Royals, who held off a second-half rally from the Bears by scoring the match's final seven goals. Trailing 9-2 halftime, Lenoir-Rhyne tried to come back and cut the margin to 10-6 on a goal by Squires with 3:26 left in the third period but the Bears couldn't get any closer.
Garrett Chan (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) added three goals and two assists for the Royals, who outscored the Bears by a 7-0 margin in the fourth period. In goal, Queens' Eric Dolan (Hopkinton, Mass.) earned the victory after stopping 11 shots while L-R junior Steven McGhee (Durham, N.C.) fell to 8-3 after suffering the loss. McGhee finished with seven saves as well in the setback.
Queens also held the advantage in shots taken (38-37) and ground balls (38-27) in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne next faces Coker in Hartsville, S.C., Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m., in the regular season finale. Queens hosts Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas match on Saturday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
