After a record-breaking performance at the Raleigh Relays over the weekend, Appalachian State University senior runner Amanda Hamilton has been named as the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Hamilton, who finished fifth in the 10,000-meter run at NC State last Friday with a time of 34:52.76, broke the previous App State record set by Whitney Ball in 1989. The Cary, N.C. native currently leads the SoCon in the 10,000-meters and her mark of 17:11.01 in the 5,000 meters at the Wake Forest Open on March 15th is the fourth-best time in the league this year.
A health care management major, Hamilton currently holds an impressive 3.8 grade-point average and is the fifth Mountaineer to earn Student-Athlete of the week honors this season. Appalachian's other honorees include Stanley Broaden (men's track and field), Courtney Freeman (women's basketball), Nathan Healy (men's basketball) and Jamie Nunn (baseball).
