The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (16-24) picked up a 10-4 road victory over Saint Augustine's (22-13) Tuesday afternoon at the USA Baseball Complex in non-league play. L-R freshman catcher David Martin (Boone, N.C.) hit a solo home run to go along with two RBI while senior designated hitter Rai Robinson (Kings Mountain, N.C.) drove in a game-high three runs in the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne took control early with seven runs in the first three innings of play. Martin's home run, his sixth of the year, came in the second inning as the Bears defeated the Falcons for the second time this season.
Robinson drove in a run with a double in the second frame as well before adding a two-run single in the third for the Bears. Lenoir-Rhyne then put the game away with a three-run sixth inning. All three L-R runs in the frame came on bases-loaded walks.
L-R sophomore Travis McQueen (Richmond, Va.) improved to 3-3 on the season after being credited with the win while senior Christian Hicks (Charlotte, N.C.) pitched the last three innings of the contest for his second save of the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior shortstop Dalton Hall (Hickory, N.C.) added a game-high three hits and drove in a run in the victory for the Bears as well. For Saint Augustine's, Pat Hall (Virginia Beach, Va.) had a run-scoring double while Jeremy Wilkins (Smithfield, N.C.) (1-1) took the loss. Two Falcon errors led to five unearned runs for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road Wednesday against Brevard in a non-conference regional game in Brevard, N.C., beginning at 3:00 p.m. Saint Augustine's faces Francis Marion on the road in Florence, S.C., on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
