With the Kafitz era with the Watauga County Schools soon to be past, the Board of Education announced Friday a plan for the immediate future. That release said that David Fonseca, current assistant superintendent of Watauga County Schools, will carry out additional duties as needed to support the school system in day-to-day operations until the Board announces its plan for an interim superintendent at its next meeting on April 8th. Dr. Fonseca said “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work through this time of transition.  We remain absolutely committed to working with teachers, parents, and the community to put students first.”  Superintendent Dr. David Kafitz is resigning from the superintendent’s position in a mutual agreement with the Watauga County Schools Board of Education after several incidents that came to light at the first of the year. The cost for his short tenure will continue for nearly another year and a half in the amount of $186,110 in the agreement announced last Thursday.
