|Mars Hill Takes Two From No.25 L-R|

The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (23-10, 7-5) fell to Mars Hill (18-8, 7-3) in both games of a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader, 5-2 and 3-0, Friday at Ponder Park. The Bears are ranked No. 25 in NCAA Division II.
Game One - Mars Hill 5, Lenoir-Rhyne 2
The Lions' Robyn Stanek (Winston-Salem, N.C.) drove in two runs including the game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the third inning to lead Mars Hill to the win. L-R junior third baseman Haily Jarman (Wadesboro, N.C.) hit a two-run home run, her team-leading seventh of the year, in the top of the third despite the loss.
Mars Hill's Taylor Morris (Weddington, N.C.) improved to 8-3 on the year after going the distance on the mound and limiting L-R to just four hits in the contest. The Lions' Brittany Gibson (Laurinburg, N.C.) had a run-scoring triple in the first inning as well. L-R freshman Brandi Hole (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) fell to 13-6 after suffering the setback.
Game Two - Mars Hill 3, Lenoir-Rhyne 0
Stanek hit two home runs while Taylor Hussey (Randleman, N.C.) threw a three-hit shutout to lead Mars Hill to the doubleheader sweep. Hussey also struck out two batters in improving to 9-3 on the season. Stanek hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning before adding a two-run round-tripper in the sixth frame for the Lions.
L-R freshman Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) fell to 9-4 on the season after being tagged with the loss. Lenoir-Rhyne next plays at Lees-McRae on Tuesday in a doubleheader in Banner Elk, N.C., beginning at 3:00 p.m. Mars Hill takes on Lincoln Memorial on the road in a conference doubleheader Tuesday starting at 1:00 p.m.
