There were two injury accidents Sunday afternoon with victims transported to Watauga Medical Center. The first was a noon crash on US 321 in front of Tweetsie Railroad. The state patrol said that Geoffrey Rayle, 54, of Lenoir, lost control on the slick roadway, his 2000 Buick skidded off the road, rolled over and struck a tree some 25 feet off of the roadway. Rayle was transported to Watauga Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, then was cited for Exceeding a Safe Speed in the crash.
The second crash was on Brownwood Road in Deep Gap just after 4:30, a two-car crash that occurred as 19-year old Nicholas Edward Lilly of Deep Gap went left of center, according to the state patrol, his 2003 Mazda sedan striking the 2001 Ford Ranger pickup of Phillip Lee Watson of Fleetwood, the truck running off of the road and overturning after the crash. Nicholas Edward Lilly was taken to Watauga Medical Center for evaluation and a CAT scan, and was cited there by the state patrol for Left of Center, Failure to Maintain Lane Control, and Possession of an alcoholic beverage Underage.
