The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Track and Field Team placed second out of 16 schools at the Beynon Sports Catamount Classic which concluded Saturday at Western Carolina University.

The L-R men's squad totaled 66 points while the women's squad placed ninth overall with 24.5 points. Western Carolina placed first in both the men's and women's competition.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior Artis Gilmore (Asheville, N.C.) won the men's triple jump with a school-record 48'3.5". Gilmore's jump is currently the fifth-best in the nation this year and was good enough to qualify as a provisional to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Pueblo, Colo., on May 23-25.
L-R redshirt freshman Kevin Baxter (Columbia, S.C.) placed second in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a school-record 14.54. Baxter has already qualified as a provisional to nationals in the event. Meanwhile, sophomore Jarrod Spears (Bunnlevel, N.C.) finished third in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 10.91 and the men's 400-meter relay squad placed second overall (42.24) for the Bears.
On the women's side, senior Elizabeth Chaffee (Winston-Salem, N.C.) broke the school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:11.74) and finished second while freshman Tarryn Cornejo (Deland, Fla.) established a new program mark in the pole vault (8'6.25").
Finally, senior Samantha Levine (Wayne, N.J.) placed third overall in the women's javelin throw (114'09").
The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams next compete in the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C., on Friday and Saturday.
