Lenoir-Rhyne (22-7, 6-2) and Carson-Newman (21-11, 5-3) split a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at Bears Field. L-R won the first game, 6-4, before Carson-Newman rallied to take the second contest in eight innings, 6-3.

Game One - Lenoir-Rhyne 6, Carson-Newman 4
L-R broke the contest open with a six-run fourth inning en route to the win. Two walks with the bases loaded and a two-run single by junior third baseman Haily Jarman (Wadesboro, N.C.) highlighted the frame for the Bears.
The Eagles tried to rally, capped off by a solo home run from Sara Kelley (Birchwood, Tenn.) in the sixth inning, but couldn't get any closer than two runs the rest of the way.
L-R freshman Brandi Hole (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) took the win while freshman Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) was credited with her third save of the year for the Bears. For Carson-Newman, Kelley tallied a pair of hits and two runs scored but Kaitie Sims (Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.) (12-2) took the loss. Caitlyn Lance (East Ridge, Tenn.) also hit a home run for the Eagles.
Game Two - Carson-Newman 6, Lenoir-Rhyne 3 (eight innings)
The Eagles scored three runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings to rally and stun the Bears en route to the split. Trailing 3-0 with two outs in the top of the seventh, Carson-Newman's Cassie Elliott (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit a three-run home run to force extra innings.
The Eagles carried the momentum into the eighth inning with three more runs including the game-winning RBI single from Jessica Morgan (Ooltewah, Tenn.). L-R senior first baseman Jessica Fellmeth (Waxhaw, N.C.) and junior second baseman Ciera Cockerham (Yadkinville, N.C.) both finished with two hits and a run batted in but the Bears couldn't hold a three-run lead. On the mound, Cassie Lyons (Knoxville, Tenn.) improved to 9-9 with the victory while Hole (12-5) suffered the loss in relief for the Bears.
