Roger Burgess has stepped down as boy's basketball coach at Hibriten High School. Athletic Director Chuck Cannon made the announcement last Friday.

Cannon said Burgess will remain with the school as a physical education instructor. Burgess, who had been considering the move for a while, came to Hibriten in 2002. He replaced Ella Matthews as the girl's basketball coach that season. He was 14-14 in his only season with the girls. He took over the boy's team the following season.
During his ten-year run, Burgess was 150-138, which includes an 8-16 record this past season. The Panthers finished the season mired in a seven-game losing streak. They were eliminated by St. Stephens in the opening-round of the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference tournament.
During his tenure as head coach, his teams qualified for the playoffs every season through 2011. The highlight was an appearance in the state Final Four in 2010.
Cannon said the school is searching for a new coach, and he hopes to have a new coach in place by April 1.
