afternoon, as Lincoln Memorial University held on for an 8-1 victory in non-conference play. Lincoln Memorial's (4-4) duo of Leah Donoff and Aura Penalosa kicked off doubles action with an 8-3 victory over Lees-McRae's (0-8) tandem of Samantha Wohlers (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) and Lutz, as Alexandra Granger and Summer Robinson won an 8-4 decision against Bost and Stevie Harrell (Morganton, N.C.). The Railsplitters were awarded the third flight by default. Donoff opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Wohlers, before Lutz answered with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Penalosa to cut the lead to 4-1. Harrell battled throughout her fourth flight match, as Kelsey Vinsant held on for a 7-5, 7-5 victory to clinch the team decision for Lincoln Memorial. Robinson rallied for a three-set win at No. 3 singles, holding on to defeat Bost, 1-6, 6-4, 14-12, as the Railsplitters were awarded the fifth and sixth flights by default. The Lincoln Memorial University men's tennis team swept singles and doubles play en route to a 9-0 victory over visiting Lees-McRae College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. Lincoln Memorial's (6-3) tandem of Marcelo Alvim and Will Sparks opened doubles play with an 8-1 victory over Lees-McRae's (0-7) duo of Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Puerto Rico) and Carlos Pinel (Vitoria, EspĂrito Santo, Brazil). Alexey Minevskiy and Guilherme Rocha defeated Taduez Poplawski (Asheville, N.C.) and Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.), 8-4, before Michael Koenen and Gabriel Martins gave the Railsplitters a 3-0 advantage with an 8-0 victory against Jesse Artrip (Cleveland, Va.) and Adam Chivers (Wilbraham, Mass.). Phillip Hoffmann kicked off singles action with a 6-1, 6-4 decision against Araujo, as Minevskiy defeated Pinel, 6-3, 6-2 in the third flight. Martins posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Choi at No. 4 singles, while Rocha earned a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Artrip in the fifth flight. Koenen defeated Chivers, 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth flight, as Alvim battled to a hard-fought 7-6 (10-4), 2-6, 10-6 victory against Poplawski at No. 2 singles. Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Friday when the Bobcats travel to Misenheimer, N.C. to resume their Conference Carolinas schedule with a 2 p.m. matchup against Pfeiffer University. |
