Ashe Man Dies as Car Flips into Creek PDF Print

An Ashe County man died in a crash late Wednesday morning, his car landing overturned in the waters of a creek.  The 11:40am wreck was on US 221 North of Jefferson and occurred when Harlie Wagoner ran off of the highway to the right, his 2005 VW hitting a large culvert, according to trooper Chuck Olive.  The impact caused the car to flipped over as it careened into Nathan’s Creek where it landed upside down in the water.  Rescuers worked to remove the McGrady man from the car to a waiting ambulance, but he was pronounced dead soon after arrival at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Trooper Olive reported that witnesses said Harlie Wagoner was not speeding nor was alcohol involved, but an autopsy will be conducted at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center to determine whether any health issue might have led to the crash and the 76-year olds’ death.
