The Pfeiffer Baseball Team (11-17) picked up an 8-2 win over Lenoir-Rhyne (10-20) Tuesday evening at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Pfeiffer's Ethan Greene (Todd, N.C.), who led Watauga High to the second-round of the Class 4A state playoffs last spring, allowed just two runs in eight innings while Jacob Yates (Blairs, Va.) drove in three runs to lead the Falcons to the win.
Greene (2-4) held the Bears scoreless after giving up two first-inning runs to go along with nine strikeouts in the victory. He scattered five hits and struck out nine men.
L-R senior first baseman Colton Hansley (Asheville, N.C.) provided the lone offense for the Bears with a two-run double in the first frame before the Falcons plated the last eight runs of the contest.
After the Falcons tied the game at two, Yates provided the game-winning, two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Pfeiffer's Kevin Price (Asheville, N.C.) added a two-run single as part of a four-run eighth inning for the Falcons, who won their second straight contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Dustin Bare (Hays, N.C.) (0-1) suffered the setback for the Bears on the mound. Meanwhile, L-R junior second baseman Nate Martin (Lansing, N.Y.) and Hansley each finished with a pair of hits in the losing effort.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to take on Saint Augustine's on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., at Bears Field. Pfeiffer faces North Greenville on the road Friday beginning at 2:30 p.m.
