Furman’s Sieara Bishop and Appalachian State’s Alissa Schoelkopf have been named the Southern Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the week,
respectively, the league announced Tuesday. The selections are made by the Southern Conference office.
Freshman Sieara Bishop batted .467 with a double, homer and seven runs scored while leading the Paladins to a 3-2 record versus South Carolina and Chattanooga this past weekend.
The Hendersonville, N.C., native went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs in the Paladins 8-6 win over South Carolina before belting a two-run homer as part of a 2-for-4 performance in Furman’s 4-0 victory over Chattanooga on Saturday.
In Sunday’s series finale, the shortstop drove in a run and scored two in a 9-1 Furman win. Bishop, who went 7-for-15 with three walks for the week, posted a .556 on base percentage to go with a .733 slugging percentage.
Schoelkopf went 4-0 on the week as she earned both wins in the Charleston Southern sweep and picked up two wins against Samford. The sophomore pitched 22.0 innings, allowing only five runs, while posting 15 strikeouts and a 1.59 ERA.
Also receiving nominations for player of the week were Appalachian State’s Sarah Warnock, College of Charleston’s Kelsey Hodgson, UNCG’s Katelyn Bedwell, Samford’s Alex Adams and Chattanooga’s Anyssa Robles.
Also nominated for pitcher of the week were Elon’s Kayla Caruso, Furman’s Lauren Collier, UNCG’s Raeanne Hanks, Chattanooga’s Rachel Albritton, and Western Carolina’s Jordan Garrett.
