The Watuaga High girl's lacrosse team officially opened its season Saturday on the road against Lake Norman, the No.1 team in the state. Lake Norman won the match, 21-5. Taelor Critcher scored three goals to pace the Pioneers (0-1) in
Saturday's loss. Katie Marks and Courtney Kapral each scored a goal apiece. The loss also spoiled the coaching debut for WHS head coach Holly Quick. But despite the loss, Quick was upbeat about Saturday's effort. "The ladies played a great game today against the number one ranked team in the state," she said. "We lost 21-5, which is as close as or better than any other team has played them so far this year." Quick named midfielder Ellie Sloboda WHS' player of the game. "She played strong on both ends of the field and was key in in this tough defensive battle for us," Quick said. Goalkeeper Keirsten Henson had 6 saves. The Pioneers travel to West Forsyth on Wednesday. |
