 Just one day after their poorest effort of the season, the Watauga High boy's golf team came back with a solid effort Thursday in a non-conference match at the Cedar Creek Country Club in Lenior, N.C.
The Pioneers had a team score of 166 and finished third, ten shots off the lead. Hickory bested the field with a team score of 156. That win by Hickory also snapped Hibriten's two-match winning streak. The Panthers finished second, six shots back, with a 162. Austin Harrill of the Red Tornadoes paced the field with an even par 36. Carson Nguyen of the Pioneers was two shots back with a two over par 38. Austin Northern and Troy McNeil each fired a 42; Christian Bailey had a 44. The Pioneers travel to North Wilkesboro to play a non-conference match at the OaKwoods Country Club next Tuesday.
Team scores: Hickory 156 Hibriten 162 Watauga 166 St. Stephens 173 Alexander Central 174 South Caldwell 183 FT Foard did not play.
Medalist: Austin Harrill from Hickory shoots even par 36.
