Hall, Kosmala Pace WHS Track PDF Print

Justin Hall and Doria Kosmala each won two events apiece on Wednesday at Alexander Central in Taylorsville, N.C. The end results, the Watauga High boy's

track team, which won seven events in all, bested the field with 124 points. Alexander Central finished a distant second with 93.5. The WHS girls won four events and finished second with 90 points. Alexander Central won the meet with 96 points.
Hall won both the long jump (17-08.50) and triple jump (36-02.50); Kosmala won the 1,600-meter run (5:31) and the 800 (2:34). The WHS boy's also won the 4x800 relay (8:57), the 4x200 relay (1:37.44), Josh Anderson won the 1,600 (4:54), Ryan Hellenbrand won the 800 (2:14), and Jacob Soule won the 3,200 (11:26).
The WHS girls won 4x800 (11:15); and Lynde Wangler won the 3,200 (13:51). WHS will host a four-team meet with Hibriten, South Caldwell and Alexander Central next Wednesday at Jack Groce Stadium.

 

WHS Golf Struggles At Brushy Mountain

 

The Watauga High boy's golf team had its poorest outing of the year Wednesday at the Brushy Mountain Golf Club in Taylorsville, N.C. The Pioneers finished seventh in their non-conference match with a team score of 187.
Hibriten bested the field with a team score of 162. South Caldwell and Hickory finished in a second-place tie, five shots back. Tyler Johnson of the Panthers was the leading medalist with a two-over par 38.
Austin Northern paced the Pioneers with a seven-over par 43, five shots off the lead. Troy McNeil had a 46. The Pioneers play at Cedar Rock Country Club in Lenior, N.C., today. Hibriten will be the host school.

WEST FORSYTH BLANKS WHS SOFTBALL

 

The Watauga High softball team suffered its second setback of the season Wednesday night. West Forsyth defeated WHS 10-0 in five innings in a non-conference game in Clemmons, N.C.
Taylor Drummonds had WHS' (3-2) only hit of the game, and the Pioneers only had four baserunners on the night
"It was a tough night on the ball field against a very strong West Forsyth team," said WHS coach Stephanie Kostis. "I think tonight exposed a lot of weaknesses for us to work on as we progress throughout the season." 
The Titans broke the game open with six runs in the fourth. Michala McCune suffered the loss. She coughed up four runs on four hits in three innings with four walks. Kim Robinson got roughed up. Robinson gave up six runs on five hits in her one inning of work.
The JV team lost 15-0 in three innings. Carrington Taylor had WHS' only hit. WHS travels to Alexander Central Friday night.

 

WHS SOCCER SCHEDULE CHANGE

 

Watauga High girl's soccer coach Brittany Bolick has announced that the Pioneers will play Ashe County on Wednesday, April 17 instead of Monday, March 25. The Pioneers (1-2-1) travel to Alexander Central for their Northwestern 3A/4A Conference opener Friday night.

 

YOUNGER WINS AWARD

 

Watauga High Athletic Director Tom Wright has announced that Hannah Younger of the WHS girl's soccer team has been named the Five Guys Athlete of the Week for the week of March 4-10.
Younger is a senior captain of the women's soccer team. She scored four goals and had two assists in the Freedom Soccer Tournament last week.  She was named to the All Attacking Team for the tournament.
