Daniel Kilgore, who played college football at Appalachian State University and is currently a member of the San Francisco 49ers, will be the honorary starter for Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The Kingsport, TN., 

native will wave the green flag for the Food City 500.
Kilgore, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 308 pounds, played at Dobyns-Bennett High School. He played for the Mountaineers from 2006-10, and he was selected by the 49ers in the fifth round of the National Football League Draft in April of 2011. He appeeared in 18 games for the 49ers last season and became only the second former ASU player to play in a Super Bowl.
The Food City 500 gets under way at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Qualifying takes place Friday at 3:40 p.m. Race coverage begins at 12 noon on Highway 106.1 FM.
