Watauga High School's Eric Breitenstein was too much for Central Cabarrus to handle as the Pioneers crushed CC, 52-36 at Jack Groce Stadium Friday. CC's offense outgained Watauga, 488-409, but senior all-star Breitenstein rushed for 316 yards and six touchdowns.
His offensive production overshadowed a team-high 18 tackle performance on defense.. With the victory, Watauga advances into the third round of the Class 4-A state playoffs. Devan Corum scored Watauga's other touchdown. The Pioneers also scored on a safety and on Savva Kostis' 29-yard field goal just before halftime.
The Pioneers will face Purnell Swett, which defeated A.C.Reynolds, 22-21 Friday evening.
Ashe County High School fell to Pisgah, 35-14. Pisgah led throughout, taking a 14-0 advantage into halftime and pulling away in the second half.
