 The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team has earned a trip to the NCAA Division II Playoffs and will face USC Aiken in the opening round at Clayton State on Friday in Morrow, Ga.
Lenoir-Rhyne (19-9) is seeded fourth while USC Aiken (21-7) is the fifth seed in the Southeast Regional Tournament. The winner will face the winner of the opening round contest between top-seeded Clayton State (29-0) and eighth-seeded Mount Olive (18-11) in the regional semifinals. The other teams in the regionals this year include No. 2 Limestone (25-3), No. 3 Anderson (23-8), No. 6 Pfeiffer (24-6) and No. 7 Barton (21-7). Lenoir-Rhyne is making its fourth trip to the NCAA Division II National Tournament in school history and its first berth in three years. L-R also qualified to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament in 2003, 2009 and 2010. Lenoir-Rhyne, which has put together seven straight winning seasons, is led by sophomore guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) this year. Charles ranks first on the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game and three-pointers made (40) while earning First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference honors in 2012-13. The Bears, who lead the league in scoring defense (55.9), field goal percentage defense (.355) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.252), finished second in the conference this year with a 13-5 mark.
