The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team (3-3, 2-0) remained unbeaten in Deep South Conference play with a 16-10 victory over Wingate (1-7, 0-4) Saturday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field.
L-R junior Imari Davis (San Diego, Calif.) and senior Edward Guerin (Jupiter, Fla.) each scored three goals as the Bears beat the Bulldogs for the first time in three all-time contests. Garrett Kendell (Greer, S.C.) had three goals in the losing effort for the Bulldogs, who lost their sixth consecutive contest.
With the match deadlocked at three, Lenoir-Rhyne took the lead for good on a goal by junior Robert Darrow (Fort Myers, Fla.) at the 5:52 mark of the first period. The goal was the first of four straight scores for the Bears and Lenoir-Rhyne never let its advantage fall below two the rest of the way.
Four more players scored at least two goals on the day including junior Tyler Kotch (Butler, Pa.) with two scores and an assist for the Bears, who won their second straight match. Wingate held a 41-36 advantage in shots taken while L-R maintained the edge in ground balls (35-30) on the afternoon.
In goal, Lenoir-Rhyne Steven McGhee (Durham, N.C.) earned the win after notching 13 saves on the afternoon while Wingate's Patrick Cooney (Cazenovia, N.Y.) suffered the loss. Cooney stopped six L-R shots in the match.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Young Harris at Moretz Stadium on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Wingate plays Coker in Hartsville, S.C., on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
