 Appalachian State University women’s basketball senior Anna Freeman and sophomore Maryah Sydnor were named to the Southern Conference All-SoCon Team as selected by the league’s coaches, it was
announced on Tuesday. In addition to All-SoCon accolades, Freeman was named as a first team all-conference selection by the league’s media members, along with Sydnor, who earned a spot as a second team selection. A standout player for Appalachian, Freeman finished the regular season as the top scorer (16.6 ppg) and steals leader (3.0 spg) in the league. She currently ranks third in rebounds (8.9 rpg) and blocks (1.9 bpg), while heading a front line that leads the league in scoring with an average of 68.9 points per game and ranks second in offensive and defensive rebounding (40.7 rpg). Freeman capped off her regular season slate with nine double-doubles. Sydnor completed her sophomore campaign ranked second in the league in free-throw percentage, averaging 88.1 percent (89-for-101) on the season, while finishing third in field goal percentage with a 49.2 percent average (158-for-321). The 2013 Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament begins Friday, March 8 at 11:30 a.m. at Kimmel Arena in Asheville, N.C. The championship game is scheduled for Monday, March 11 at 3:00 p.m.
