Appalachian State women’s tennis entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Top 75 ranking for the first time in school history, the
association announced on Tuesday, March 5. The Mountaineers broke in at No. 65 in the overall rankings of nearly 400 NCAA Division I schools in the United States. "This is an unbelievable moment for ASU Women's Tennis," said Head Coach Colin Crothers. "When you think of the major programs that we are ahead of--LSU, Washington State, Princeton--or the programs that aren't even in the rankings, which include several ACC teams, it truly is an outstanding effort by this team. I'm very proud of them." Appalachian (9-2, 2-0 SoCon) has recorded a three-win streak dating back to a 7-0 sweep of Presbyterian College on Feb. 24. The Mountaineers have posted back-to-back conference match victories, including a 4-2 defeat in their SoCon opener against Chattanooga (4-2) and, most recently, a 4-3 win at Samford on March 3. The black and gold will return to action on Wednesday, March 13 against Gardner-Webb at noon. The Mountaineers will head to UNC Wilmington the following day to face UNC Wilmington at 10 a.m.
