Police in Wilkesboro came across a number of illegal activities in a call Monday night at an Elm Street residence.  Officers were responding to an assault call at about 8:40 where a 35-year old woman reported that she had performed a sex act but had not been paid, and therefore wanted to report it as an assault.  But the alleged perpetrator indicated he was physically unable. A group of other men were at the 1001 Elm Street home playing cards, according to police, and reported their own versions of the events. Police then took a verbal statement from the alleged suspect at their department, who stopped in the middle of his statement and declared that he would show police what the incident was all about.  He then allegedly produced from his pockets two baggies with white powder, claiming that he bought the drugs from one of the other men in the house, bought for the woman reporting the assault—both at the Police station at the time. In the end, 35-year old Crystal Maria Stokes was charged with prostitution, and Joseph Virgil Bowlin Jr., 64, was charged with Possession of Cocaine, homeowner, James Robert Hairston, charged with Possession of Cocaine, Sale and Delivery of Cocaine, and after a search turned up drug items, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Permitting use of a place for Prostitution.
