L-R Women's Basketball To Host Wingate In SAC Tournament PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team earned the second seed in the 2013 Food Lion SAC Tournament and will host seventh-seeded Wingate on Wednesday in the quarterfinal round at

Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m. Lenoir-Rhyne enters the game with a record of 18-8 overall and 13-5 in SAC play while Wingate is 13-15 and 7-11, respectively.
L-R swept the season series from Wingate, winning 73-56 on the road and 55-53 at home, but the Bulldogs hold the edge in the all-time series, 53-12. Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate have not played in the conference tournament since the 2003-04 season, when the Bulldogs prevailed by a 91-79 score in the semifinals.
The Bears are led this season by sophomore guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.), who is first on the squad in scoring at 11.5 points per outing.
Lenoir-Rhyne also leads the South Atlantic Conference in scoring defense (55.7 ppg), field goal percentage defense (.352) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.244) and is 9-2 at home this year.
L-R is looking to earn a berth in the tournament semifinals for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign. The winner of the Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate contest will face the winner of Tusculum and Catawba's first round game in the semifinals on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Following Wednesday's campus on-site quarterfinal games, the Food Lion SAC Tournament Semifinals and Finals will be played at Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C.

Bears Travel to Carson-Newman To Open SAC Tournament

 

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team will travel to Jefferson City, Tenn., to take on Carson-Newman in the First Round of the 2013 Food Lion SAC Tournament. The contest is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday.
Lenoir-Rhyne (18-8, 11-7) is the fifth seed in the tournament while Carson-Newman (19-7, 12-6) is seeded fourth.
The two teams split the season series this year with each prevailing at home.
Lenoir-Rhyne won by a 69-57 score in Hickory, N.C., before Carson-Newman prevailed later in the season, 61-58. L-R continues to lead the all-time series by a 31-20 count.
The Bears are led this season by sophomore guard Denzel Dillingham (Hickory, N.C.), who is first on the squad in scoring (18.1 ppg) and has been named the conference weekly player of the week three times this year.
Junior guard R.J. McClure (Canton, N.C.) averages 12.7 points per game while junior guard Jarvis Perry (Willingboro, N.J.) ranks first in the league in assists with 128 for the Bears as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne is looking to make its first trip to the league tournament semifinals since 2008-09. The Bears and the Eagles last played in the conference tournament in 2009 when the Bears prevailed in overtime by a 111-109 score in the first round.
The winner of the contest between the Bears and the Eagles will face the winner of the Lincoln Memorial and Tusculum game on Saturday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Following Wednesday's campus on-site first round contests, the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament Semifinals and Finals will be played at Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C.
