ASU Women’s Golf Falls to Dayton PDF Print

Senior Lauren Smith earned medalist honors with a 77 (+5), but it was not enough as Appalachian State University fell to Dayton in a dual match, 323-326, Sunday afternoon at Berkeley Hall Country

Club. After Smith’s 77, the Mountaineers posted four rounds of 83 (+11), as seniors Mimi Burke (41-42), Yue Xu (43-40), Rumbidzai Masamvu (41-42) and freshman Haley Zagoria (44-39) all finished tied for sixth for the dual.
The Flyers were led by freshman Mika Suntay, who fired a 78 (+6). UD also posted the second, third and fourth best scores of the dual, including a 79 (+7) by Grace Nikolai. Individually, freshman Lily Yatawara carded an 85 (+13) in her first tournament of the fall.
Appalachian returns to action on Monday, March 11 as the Black and Gold visits the Benbow Invitational at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Course in Jacksonville, Fla. for a two-day tournament. Last year’s invitational, hosted by Butler University, held a field of 14 teams as IUPUI was crowded the team champions.
