Curry, Moorhead Pace LMC at Indoor Championsh​ips PDF Print

Juniors Kortnie Curry (Lexington, N.C.) and Taryn Moorhead (Deer Park, Wash.) finished first in the high jump and pole vault, respectively, to lead the Lees-McRae College women's track and field team to a strong fourth-place finish at the

inaugural Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.
King College claimed the team title with 139 points, running away with the competition, as Queens University of Charlotte placed second with 73 markers. Mount Olive College was third with 62 points, followed by Lees-McRae (54), and Barton College (53).
Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.) picked up her first of two all-conference second team selections in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing second with a time of 9.49 seconds before placing second in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line with a mark of 1:01.09 to claim her second all-conference nod of the day.
Curry delivered one of the performances of the day for the Bobcats in the high jump, winning the conference title with a mark of 1.65 meters. Persephanie Mcrae (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed third in the high jump competition with a mark of 1.60 meters, claiming a third-team all-conference spot.
Moorhead followed with a victory in the pole vault, posting the competition's top mark at 2.45 meters en route to a first-team all-conference selection. Sarah Monday (Lexington, N.C.) claimed the second spot on the podium with a vault of 2.30 meters to earn a second-team all-conference nod.
Rachelle Cleveland (Moyock, N.C.) and Jamara Cook (Claremont, N.C.) each delivered a strong fifth place performance in the shot put and weight throw, respectively, posting marks of 10.96 and 11.71 meters.
The Lees-McRae College men's track and field team set two school records and placed four athletes on the all-Conference Carolinas team en route to a strong fifth-place performance at the inaugural Conference Carolinas Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.
King College claimed the team title with 110 points, edging Limestone College's total of 103 markers. North Greenville University finished in third with 87 points, followed by Mount Olive College (86), and Lees-McRae (51).
Kevin Dever (Leesburg, N.J.) opened the day with a strong performance in the 60-meter dash, finishing sixth with a time of 7.18 seconds before Michael Davis (Independence, Va.) set a new school record in the one-mile run, crossing the line in third with a time of 4:24.15 to earn a spot on the all-conference third team.
Brandon Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) posted the Bobcats' second school record of the day in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing fourth with a time of 8.58 seconds. The Bobcats placed fourth in the 4x400-meter relay, as Dever teamed with Travis Burton (Newberry, S.C.), Jarrett Gibson (Marietta, Ga.), and Ian Harned (Pine Level, N.C.) to post a time of 3:28.75.
Burton then finished fourth in the high jump, posting a mark of 1.88 meters. Evan Webb (Salisbury, N.C.) continued his strong junior season with a victory in the pole vault, earning a spot on the all-conference first team with a mark of 4.70 meters.
Freshman Dwight Gilzine (Charlotte, N.C.) posted the Bobcats' top performance of the day in the shot put, finishing second with a mark of 12.77 meters to claim an all-conference second team selection. Devan Mackey (Hickory, N.C.) finished fourth with a mark of 12.42 meters before taking the top spot on the podium in the weight throw, nearly setting a new school record with a toss of 14.11 meters.
Lees-McRae returns to competition on Saturday, February 23 when the Bobcats travel to Fairfax, Va. to participate in George Mason University's Last Chance meet at the George Mason Field House.
