 The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams just wrapped up the second-to-last day of competition at the 2013 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships Friday at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.
The Bears' women's team has 67 points, good for 10th-place overall, while the men's squad stands in 11th with 57 points. Once again, Wingate leads the women's (520.5 points) and men's (556 points) competition entering the final day of swimming on Saturday. In the finals, L-R freshman Leah Watts (Hickory, N.C.) finished 14th in the women's 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:43.84. In the men's final of the 400-yard individual medley, freshman Nicholas Gibson (Hickory, N.C.) swam a time of 4:16.52 to place 18th overall for the Bears. Meanwhile, Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Kyle Hites (Lenoir, N.C.) broke his own school record in the finals of the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a 59.37, good for 17th-place overall. The fourth and final day of the conference meet takes place on Saturday.
