 The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team (0-1) opened the 2013 season with a 13-10 loss to Belmont Abbey (1-0) Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Crusaders' Daniel Marshall (Campbellville, Ontario, CANADA) led all scorers with six goals as Belmont Abbey rallied from deficits of 4-1 and 8-5 en route to the win. L-R lost despite four goals from junior Connor Squires (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and two goals and two assists from sophomore Ned Kaish (Atlanta, Ga.). Trailing by an 8-5 score, Belmont Abbey reeled off six straight goals in the second half to take the lead for good. The Crusaders' Connor Sellars (Brampton, Ontario, CANADA) scored the game-winner for Belmont Abbey and finished with a pair of goals and two assists in the victory. Belmont Abbey held a 51-29 advantage in shots taken and a 25-24 edge in ground balls while Brett Lawless (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied seven saves in goal for the victory. Lenoir-Rhyne junior Tyler Kotch (Butler, Pa.) also scored twice but sophomore goalkeeper Alex Squires (Lawrenceville, Ga.) suffered the loss despite finishing with nine saves on the day. L-R hosts Pfeiffer in its home opener on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., at Moretz Stadium while Belmont Abbey remains at home to face Shorter on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
