A group of hikers had to be led to safety Saturday night after their day hike turned to a cold night. Flashlights failing, the call for help went in just after 8pm for Blowing Rock Rescue to respond to the Boone Fork Trail on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the group telling dispatchers
they were afraid they would get further turned around without help. Rescuers told dispatch to have the party stop where they were while GPS coordinates were derived from the cell phone, and rescuers set out into the dark and nearly moonless night, to safely guide the hikers to safety and provide additional warmth in the process. |
