The High Country area is blessed with many caring and giving business owners and managers.  For the last 32 years, area businesses and church affiliates have made financial contributions or offered amazing discounts toward a one-day event called AppKIDS which is sponsored by the Staff Senate at Appalachian State University.

AppKIDS (Appalachian Kindness In Donations & Service) raises money to provide a shopping day to get winter clothing for 90 of the most financially disadvantaged children from all nine Watauga County Schools.  Our 2012 event was held November 16.  While Appalachian faculty and staff donated three-fourths of the $16,000 raised, one-fourth came from area businesses and off-campus individuals.  Here is a big thank you to our local business that gave discounts benefiting the children on AppKIDS day:
