Bears Earn Split With North Greenville PDF Print

Lenoir-Rhyne (3-5) and North Greenville (2-4) split a baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Ashmore Field. The Crusaders rallied for a 17-16 win in the first contest before the Bears prevailed in the nightcap, 7-3.
Game One - North Greenville 17, Lenoir-Rhyne 16
Trailing 16-13, the Crusaders scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the first game of the doubleheader.
North Greenville's Andrew Lawrence (Woodstown, N.J.) tied the score at 16-16 with a three-run home run before John Reinholz (Greenville, S.C.) won the contest with a two-out, walk-off RBI double.
Lenoir-Rhyne was down by a 10-5 score after six innings of play before scoring five runs in both the seventh and ninth innings to take the 16-13 lead.
Junior designated hitter Mike Gasque (Mebane, N.C.) and senior first baseman Colton Hansley (Asheville, N.C.) each connected on two-run hits in Lenoir-Rhyne's five-run ninth inning.
Lawrence drove in a game-high eight runs while Frank Polino (Williamsville, N.Y.) hit two home runs and finished with six runs batted in for the Crusaders in the win.
Hansley led the Bears with three hits and four runs batted in while junior outfielder Brandon Walker (Otisville, N.Y.) hit a two-run home run for Lenoir-Rhyne despite the loss.
North Greenville's Stewart Hunt (Rock Hill, S.C.) (1-0) was credited with the win while L-R sophomore Travis McQueen (Richmond, Va.) (0-3) suffered the setback. David Martin was 0-1 in a pinch-hitting role.
Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 7, North Greenville 3
L-R senior Jared Carroll (Bladenboro, N.C.) went the distance on the mound as the Bears salvaged the split. Carroll (1-0) struck out five batters and gave up just three runs in the victory.
Trailing by a 3-2 score, Lenoir-Rhyne took the lead for good with a three-run sixth inning highlighted by Gasque's two-run triple which proved to be the game-winner.
Senior outfielder Rai Robinson (Kings Mountain, N.C.) and senior shortstop Dalton Hall (Hickory, N.C.) also drove in two runs each for L-R while North Greenville's Lawrence (0-1) suffered the setback. David Martin was 1-3 with a run scored.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Belmont Abbey Wednesday beginning at 4:00 p.m., at Bears Field while North Greenville plays at Wingate on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
