Gunshot Victim Airlifted; No Charges Expected PDF Print

Watauga Sheriff’s Office investigators were called out to a shooting late last night, and spent into the early morning on the scene. The investigation into the incident got underway while the victim, identified as 36-year old William Michael Vann, was airlifted to the Johnson City Medical Center. The call came in at 11:27pm to 639 Greer Lane in Vilas, the Vann found suffering a gunshot wound to the chest, according to Cpt. Dee Dee Rominger of the Watauga Sheriff’s Office.  He was rushed to a landing zone set up on the NC 105 bypass at the Coke plant.  Detectives cleared the scene in the early morning hours, saying that they recovered the weapon used, but that no charges are expected from their probe into the incident.
